Choosing a Veil as a Gift

A chapel veil is an unusually good gift, for a reason that has nothing to do with lace: it is worn at moments the recipient will remember, and it lasts long enough to be present at all of them.

Match the occasion, not the wardrobe

For a baptism, a first communion or a confirmation, choose white or ivory. These are the liturgies where a light veil is expected, and where photographs will be taken.

For someone who attends daily Mass, choose black. It is the veil that gets worn most often outside Korea, precisely because it does not announce itself.

For an anniversary, a name day or no occasion at all, a colour veil is the more personal choice. Each of ours follows the Church's own associations: blue for Our Lady, red for the Passion and the Holy Spirit, purple for Advent and Lent, green for hope and eternal life.

White or ivory

The difference is warmth. White is cool and crisp, and photographs cleanly against a dark suit or a dark church interior. Ivory has a touch of cream, which sits more gently against most skin tones and reads softer in person.

If you cannot decide and the veil is for a child's first communion, choose white. If it is for an adult, choose ivory.

Cecilia or Rosaria

Both are jacquard lace from the same mill, at the same price. The difference is scale.

Cecilia has a finer, denser pattern. It reads as texture from a few steps away.

Rosaria has a larger floral repeat. The motif stays legible across a room, which makes it the better choice if the veil is going to be photographed.

Two mistakes

The first is worrying about size. Every Mariel Veil is the same triangular cut, 110 cm by 50 cm. There is nothing to get wrong.

The second is over-thinking the colour. Nobody has ever been unhappy to receive a white veil. If you are stuck, that is the answer.

How it arrives

Every veil ships in its gift box, 17.5 by 14 by 3 centimetres, with the card that comes with it. You do not need to wrap anything.
